Welcome to this week's Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #143! When I first saw this sketch I thought this was going to be a hard one... but then the idea came to me to use the sun's rays, or a water spout for the part of the sketch that radiates upward... I decided on the water spout when my mind saw waves for that little thin rectangular piece and then this adorable whale from CTMH's Operations Smile set, Animal Greetings came to mind. Can you see it?:
The rest is a blur. I've been slowly chipping away at it since that last crop on the third...lol... I have wonderful visitors this week.. my boys... and I don't want to spend my time in my craft room when they're here (only because I can't convince them to spend some time in there with me...lol) so it sits on my table and as I walk by and have a few moments I add to it. The paper is from a S.E.I. 6x6 paper stack, Dill Blossom that a wonderful friend gave me who was cleaning out her scrap room. Then there's that whale... adorable... I just love that set of little of animals and punny greetings.
The splashes were part of a Whale Cricut cut and to be honest I'm not sure what cartridge. I pulled the whale into Design Space, ungrouped the items, kept only the spout of water and cut it in three different sizes. The waves are from the CTMH Artbooking cartridge. I used some Stampendous Frantage distressing embossing powder on the tops of the spouts and the waves after attacking them with a pair of scissors to expose some of the white core... I kind of like the way it turned out. I ended up only being able to fit two here so I used the third as an embellishment with my ribbon cluster. A few drops of liquid glass here and there and I think it looks a little watery....
The ribbon is old CTMH white seam binding ribbon that I swiped some Distress Inks on and then spritzed it with water, scrunched it up and put it under something heavy for a day. Then I took it out, unraveled it and let it dry. LOVE the way it turned out and I'm definitely doing that again soon. Added a few more things from my stash and finally today... two weeks later... I'm done...lol!! Just in time for this week's challenge!
So, hop on over to Atlantic Hearts and play along this week!

ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Lisa! That looks like a tough sketch but you nailed it! The little whale is adorable and I love the little cluster of ribbon and goodies! Enjoy your time with your sons!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable pretty card...love all the embellishments around the ribbon, and the splashes are really unique representing the "I don't know what to do with" part of the sketch so well done.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this card! I may try to copy it, but it won't be as beautiful as yours! You know just how to make a cluster of embellishments look good together!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so cool! I love all the fun details!
ReplyDeleteYour card is adorable - love the water spout! That was a perfect way to fulfill the sketch, by the way. Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteWell you should take 2 weeks to make a card again. It is supper cute. I especially love this stamp set and what you did with the ribbon.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this card! It's super splashy with awesome colors! And I am addicted to dying seam binding ribbon. I cheat and spritz mine with alcohol to get the colors to run (I swipe the ribbon with stamp pads) and then wad them up in a coffee filter...they do try pretty quick that way...SO GLAD you have your boys home...not quite there yet with my kids but it's making me miss them already! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fabulous fun take on the sketch Lisa...great texture and layering. The mix of colours in the seam binding look awesome! Love your card x
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of that fabulous embellishment cluster!
