So... there's this guy. He's not MY guy... he kind of belongs to a group of us at work. One of my co-worker and friend's husband is retired and LOVES to bake. He's her new house-husband and of course she was going to retire, but at this point... why???? Anywho... he's always baking us goodies that she brings into work so on his birthday we like to do a little something for him. I used some woodgrain paper from My Minds Eye that I got on clearance over at Beall's...you just never know where you'll find something awesome!
Masculine cards are not something I have a deep well to draw from. I am gaga over all things pink and glittery and frilly and if I can choose, that's what I usually work with so a man card is ALWAYS a challenge for me. I AM playing along with the Stamp Junkies challenge sponsored by Gina K Designs today though (Prize Alert!) .. if you'd like to play along you can join the Facebook Group here. I'm also playing along with the Inkspirational Challenge #110, Word Prompt Text.
When I saw the Inkspirational Challenge I knew I wanted to use these Happy Birthday digital images from The Cutting Café's digital set, Birthday Fun. I just love the whole set and this printable in particular. I used my Tim Holtz distress ink to mess up the whole thing and then colored in the Birthday with my copics. I mounted the smaller image over one of the frames from CDD's Fancy Frames dies in vellum to help it stand out a bit more from the larger background.
I'm not afraid to mix my metal colors.. I used to be... but I'm over it now. I used this cool Buffalo charm I had in my stash because he knows me as "Buffalo" Lisa (this is where I tell everybody I'm from because they won't know where Eden, NY is). I used my Paper Sweeties Sweet Borders Sweet Cuts (that's a lot of sweetness!) and I'm still using up that silver packaging I got with my new electronics cord I purchased.... THOSE SQUIGGLIES!!! I LOVE them!!
Threw on a piece of the packaging that I embossed and I've had floating around my desk ... a leftover from a previous banner I cut I think and those cute corrugated stars from CTMH that I think I've ALMOST used up... frowny face! Then I scattered a little more silver around using my self adhesive sequins also from CTMH.
So thanks for checking in with me today and don't forget to check out these two great challenges.. if you want... no pressure.. but you should!
Wow... stunning card! You nailed the masculine challenge. Your color choices and embellishments are perfect for this theme. I like the elements of metal and your use of text is great! Thanks for sharing with us at Inkspirational!

ReplyDeleteThis is GORGEOUS! LOVING that wood grain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT design! Love the colors too!
ReplyDeleteAwesome masculine card! I so struggle with manly cards. Sometimes I just give up and make girly cards for the men. It's hard to make cats look masculine sometimes. I will have to use your card as my guide because it's a perfect manly card! Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat card, Lisa! I saw the card at Inkspirational (mine is posted next to yours). I love those squiggly thingies and am going to check them out. Isn't it cool to be able to put sequins on a guy-card?
