I'm late... I'm late! I am kinda behind in playing along with the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas hosted by The Funkie Junkie Boutique (at which there is a huge sale going on and you should check that out for sure)! It's Week #7 already and I'm way back here on Week #3! But no matter! You have until December 29th to complete all of the tags and I'm here today with my "Tag" #3. If you're interested in checking them out you can find my "Tag" #1 post here and "Tag" #2 post here! And this is how I was inspired by Linda's Tag #3 (above):
The obvious here is the glorious red!! LOVE it! At first I was concerned about the color scheme of the rest of my piece, but I mean... it's Christmas... and the plan is when I get done with the whole thing there will be pops of red all over the place. I also noticed the cute little ornament die cuts and those stripey stripes. I had a plain wooden ornament that I bought (on clearance) last year somewhere. I painted it with white gesso and then when it was dry, I used one of my Copics to color in the red parts. I don't know if that was smart to use the Copic on this, but it worked and it was worth it! While my lines aren't perfect, I think they speak to the fact that it's handmade and I love it. It makes me smile. I glued on some acrylic hearts and red glittery embellishments from CTMH and took off the plain twine and added this stripey bakers twine also inspired by Linda's tag.
I didn't find a Merry Christmas in my Tim Holtz word stickers so I decided it would be better anyway to use my Paper Smooches Christmas Word Dies to die cut Merry out of red glitter paper and place it as a little surprise in the back of the cubby. I will say... tweezers were involved in this part... but again... worth it!
So here's a wider view of the piece... I'll show the whole thing at the end... until then you just get sneaky peeks. I'll tell you I'm pretty happy so far. I added the pinecones to spread them around on the piece and I thought the little red bits helped to bring it all together. I also added another gold painted wooden snowflake in the top right corner.. again.. pull it in to the rest of the piece.
So thanks so much for stopping by! Now that company is gone I'm starting to catch up on everything so I'm hoping to get a few more cubbies filled in over the weekend and of course I'll share them with you. Thanks so much to Linda Coughlin at the Funkie Junkie Boutique for hosting this awesome challenge and a special thanks again to my friend Mitra who "made" me play along and found and decorated my base. It's like she's in my head sometimes because it's exactly how I would have wanted to decorate it but been afraid to start. You should for sure check out her blog here because it's a pretty awesome source of inspiration for me.
So glad to have you back playing with me, Lisa. You have absolutely blown me away with your hand painted top ornament. It is fantastic. I love that you painted and decorated it yourself. What a great pop of red this will provide to your collection. So happy you shared it with my visitors!
