Day 5 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop-Winged Things

Happy Day 5 of the Fall 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!  Today I'm sharing a card that I used some yummy items from Brutus Monroe along with some other stuff!

When I got the Kaleidoscope Wings Inspiration Box from Brutus Monroe last week I couldn't wait to use it... I stamped a bunch of butterflies and cut them out on my Brother Scan N Cut and there it sat.  So I've been rolling this one around in my head since then.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper and took out two different purples of Distress Inks and the Plum Surface Ink that came in the box.  I started with the distress inks, smooshed them on a block and just kind of moved them around on the paper with a paint brush.. I learned if you wet the watercolor paper before you start you get a much better effect.  Then I took some of the surface ink and smooshed that on a block and did the same.  What I learned.. if you are using Surface Ink... first... it is quite awesome... deep wonderful color... BUT it is meant to be permanent so my block was not the best place to use it.  I looked this up after I started so I took a cap from a jar instead and used that.  I must say... I LOVE the ink... you can watercolor with it... but only put it where you want it because it stays...lol!

After the watercolor was dry I stamped some of the butterflies from the set that came in the kit in Versamark and embossed them in gold.  I knew a lot of it would be covered, but you can see them peeking out in a few areas.

I used my favorite large cup die from Paper Sweeties and cut it in white on Copic friendly paper.  I stamped the owl from the You're A Hoot Inspiration Box I got last month which was awesome but I don't think you can get this one any more... if you think you might love these Inspiration Boxes don't wait too long!  They are only available for a short time and there are items in them you can't get otherwise!  I colored her in with my Copics and added some gold details to her and to the cup.

I had cut these leaves a looooooong time ago from one of my CTMH Cricut Cartridges and as usual when I cut them I cut way more than I needed because I knew I'd use them someday and hate having to cut just one or two.  They were just cut from a tan colored paper, but I took some of the Surface ink and added some color to them as well as some Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and then splattered some Gold watercolor over them... love the way they came out!

Speaking of Leaves I'm playing along with the Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge which is always anything goes and this time around the twist is Leaves!  The Outlawz challenges are a Ning site and you have to join to play along but it's worth it!  Lots of lovely people and prizes!

I diecut this butterfly from gold glitter paper using the die that came in the kit.  It's a very cool die... it cuts both this intricate butterfly and then there is an outline die also... I only used the one here.

Here you can see one of the embossed butterflies peeking out from underneath...

So I moved all of my pieces around on the page to get the layout I wanted... I wanted it to feel like drinking a hot cup of coffee on the porch in the Fall while the wind blows the leaves around .. the butterflies... well, you probably wouldn't see them so much around the time that the leaves would look like this, but I think they go together anyway...

I had NO idea where I was going to put my sentiment.  I thought about not even adding one, but when I went through my Brutus Monroe sets and came across the Turkey Day set with it's awesomely beautiful sentiments I knew it was perfect... I wanted to use the whole image because it has some beautiful leaves and such, but only this part would fit without covering up too much of what I'd done so I masked off all of the other details and embossed just the sentiment part onto a stitched banner cut from vellum and I LOVE the way the leaves show through the vellum.

I wanted gold embellishments on this one, so luckily before these retired at CTMH I bought a whole bunch because they are my favorite!  And they were perfect here.  The ones that come in the kit are clearish... like diamonds.. and beautiful... but I'll use those on another project.

So thanks so much for stopping by!  I'm starting to get a little anxious... I knew we're still a few days away from the end of the hop, but ... sigh... I'm already feeling it.  I'll have some Cutting Cafe goodness for you tomorrow so stop back again!

And don't forget about my giveaway!  You can get all of the details on my Day 1 Post Here!  You could win one of two of these beautiful bracelets:
