Welcome back and thanks for coming to take a look at my third project for the JessicaLynnOriginal July Digital Stamp Release!

Another little fellow I fell in love with right away!  This is Kookaburra Down Under.  Now... Kookaburra's are from Australia so they really don't see snow very much but it happens!  This guy got lucky and caught a few flakes on Christmas morning while resting on his branch!

For the base of this card, I cut a shaped card from my Cricut and used my Tim Holtz Broken China distress ink to add some color.  Then I placed just the front part of the base into a snowflake embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot.  I had the gold doily in my stash so I was happy to find it and use it.

I printed my little feathered friend onto Copic friendly paper; used a stitched circle die to cut him out.  I sponged some distress inks on the edges of my circle.  Then I used the same snowflake embossing folder I used on the base, along with a diffuser with the center cut out to emboss just the edges of the circle.  I've had it for quite some time and this is the first time I've used it... definitely going to use that again!

If you aren't familiar with a diffuser, mine is a 5x7 piece of plastic as thick as the cutting pad for the Big Shot with a circle cut out of the middle.  So I placed the paper inside the embossing folder just as you normally would.  I had my Big Shot set up to emboss rather than cut.  I placed the folder with the paper inside on the bottom cutting pad, and then placed the diffuser on top of the folder (where I'd normally place the 2nd cutting pad) and ran it through.  The hole where the circle is cut out was centered over my bird and because there was no pressure on that part of the paper, the impressions weren't made in the center, leaving that part flat.

Finally I searched on the internet to find an image of a Kookaburra, took a deep breath and used that to guide me in coloring him in.  I hadn't tried a realistic image like this since Copic Boot Camp so I was a little nervous.  Just remember when you're coloring something like this you can't really go wrong.  It doesn't have to be exact.  I applied my colors in little flicks and he definitely doesn't look exactly like any of the Kookaburra pictures I found, but I think he's kinda cute!  I filled in the rest of the white space using my Copic lightest blue colors.  Kind of a no no because the distress inks are water based and the Copics are alcohol based but I was careful and didn't feel like cutting out another bird image to mask him.  It all worked out and everything is O.K. ... don't panic!

Once I got done coloring him in I added some Stickles around on the background.  I used Distress Stickles on the branches for a little more dimension for the snow that was collecting on the branches... it won't be there long... it will be too warm soon and the snow will melt so he will just enjoy it while it lasts.

I was lucky to find this sentiment that I thought was perfect for a Christmas bird and added it on a banner.. I cut the banner in half and used the other half below it.  I added my white paper flower and some gold distress glitter and some more Distress Stickles... and of course... a few sequins :)!

I am playing along with the Come and Get it Christmas in July Challenge!  You can check it out here!

Thanks so much for coming back again today!  And be sure to check out all of the Design Team projects and play along on Facebook for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate for you and a friend!  Don't be a stranger!
