My Finished Cubbies-After The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags

So... recently I participated in the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas.   Over a period of 12 weeks, Linda over at the Funkie Junkie revealed one tag a week, and we were to create something inspired by her tags.  It could be a tag, a card, or anything else.  My friend Mitra had been playing along for a few years and I don't think she ever made a tag...lol!  You can check out her wrap up post here (I highly suggest you do!).  She encouraged me to play along this year, and after she picked up an old golf ball display cabinet and transformed it into the beauty above, how could I refuse?  Plus the thought of filling up all of those cubbies was exciting.  (The jars in front were for her projects... like I said... check it out!)  Now, you may notice, there are more than 12 cubbies here, so once the challenge was over, I still had some work to do!  And you may or may not have believed I'd ever finish it... it's ok... I wasn't sure myself.. but over the New Years weekend I was "organizing" my room and in order to finish, I had to put away my boxes of all of the stuff I'd collected to finish this up and I knew if I did that, I wouldn't finish so I did it and yes, I did get the boxes put away :).  Here's the finished project:

I hope you like it.  I'm quite happy with it.  I love each and every cubby and below I have some closeups.  I did include individual photos of a few of the cubbies that weren't in the challenge, but not all... didn't want you to be here all day... I mean I do want you to be here all day... but you know... free will and all...lol!

The cubbies I finished up here are that pretty little coffee tray in the upper right hand corner and the little birdie nestled in amongst the holly leaves and pinecones.

The new cubbies here are again the coffee set, that cute little foxy fox, and a collection of vintage looking buttons, flowers, and a spool.

I still love that Peace, Love, Joy wooden piece that was one of my "tags".  I placed a piece of acetate behind it and filled the cubby with silver bells.

These four cubbies were all post challenge.  I realized as I was editing my photos I left a few gray hairs behind...lol!  So sorry, but I left them as is here (I'll make sure they aren't still there before I put it away).

Here, I added that owl and the deer in the forest.

This Santa frame was another one of my favorite "tags"... and that cute squirrel is a new addition since the challenge ended.

There's that cutie pie squirrel, another cluster of vintage looking items with flowers.. and my argyle tree (that was a tag)... another favorite.

So here's my coffee cubby... you knew I'd have to put some in here right?  I placed a crocheted doily on the bottom of the cubby and then glued the coffee set to the tray so it wouldn't keep falling down... adhered that in the cubby and then added the flowers.  I think the only thing I may add in the future is something in the back there.. I thought a nice Victorian framed pic would be nice, but that one will have to roll around in my head for a bit.  For now, it's finished.  (Side note: you may think that is a tea set, however, in my house, it would have coffee in it..lol!  So it's a coffee set!)  If you come here often, you know I'm in a wonderful group called Coffee Loving Papercrafters on facebook.  Our fearless leader Amy Tsuruta inspires me constantly with her awesome coffee cards and you should check out her blog her blog here!  And while you're at it, check out the Coffee Loving Cardmakers Blog here!  If you love coffee and crafting you'll adore both places.. if you just love beautiful cards and to be inspired, then still visit Amy's blog because there's lots more there too!

This one was fun to put together.  I added another one of those cute little clay creations made by a co-workers daughter.  She (the daughter) was going to throw them away!!  But, my friend Jamie rescued them and they came to live with me.  And the crocheted doilies... the large one in back was sent to me from my friend Tracey all the way from Australia!  You should check out her blog here for sure.. it's one of my faves to visit!  And the little one in the center was made by either me or my mom.. this was my way of spreading around that pink.  I didn't want to do the same arrangement as the snowflake one, so I decided these items were perfect!

There's one of those pesky gray hairs!..lol!  This wooden snowman was purchased on clearance last year.  I made the conscious decision to leave him plain because I liked the simple look of it... and then glammed it up with some gold sparkly snowballs (aka pom poms).  And next door... I got that sparkly house on clearance last year and rather than make a real house (I didn't have small enough items to put around it), I made it into a bird house and added those cardinals I found at a rummage sale.  I let the liquid glass drip drop down the roof.. it's ice!   To be honest, the first one was a mistake, but I loved the way it looked so I added more.

At the same rummage sale I got a baggy of these vintage looking buttons and charms and decided a couple cubbies with them "randomly strewn" were in order... (random = lots of time figuring out how to position them just right).

That bird is from Yvonne Yam (You'll want to check her blog out!)... I was happy to be able to put it here... and those holly leaves/berries are from Mitra... LOVE crafty happy mail and was so happy I knew exactly where both of these items were.

And this cutie pie fox, the owl, and the squirrel were in a pack I got on clearance last year as well along with those pretty gold glitter covered pinecones.  And that pretty Petaloo flower I purchased at my LSS last week.  It was perfect here and in the owl cubby.

I'll end here!  I hope you enjoyed looking as much as I enjoyed making.  I'll play along with the challenge again next year and I'm already rolling around ideas in my head!  You should give it a go to!  Sign up to get emails from the blog here so you know when it starts next year (You CAN make tags... you don't have to make a 3D piece) and you should also check out the shop here... many of the items I used in this piece were from there and/or are available there along with SO much more!  And you'll want to sign up for email there too so you get notified of sales... there's always something going on over there!

Thanks for stopping and come back soon... lots going on here this month!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag #12

Phew!  Just under the wire, I'm here with my Tag #12 for the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas!  I struggled with this one... it is such a beautiful tag, but what struck me the most was the Argyle pattern on the base and I was having a hard time figuring out how I'd work that into a cubby!  So here's what I came up with:

After trying to figure out how to cut some argyle patterned paper to modge podge onto this wooden tree (I was going to use a snowman and add some argyle paper to his hat, but the tree in the inspiration tag caught my eye and I found this one in my stash), I finally opted to make my own and once again got my Copics out.  I started with the red copic and drew diamonds around my tree... figuring I'd do the whole thing and choose the side that looked best to show and this was it...lol!  My lines aren't straight and I have some smudges and bleeding, but I LOVE it!  it really came together when I added the white dots with the skinny end of an embossing tool I had to pick up small amounts of paint and add the dotted lines.  My hands are shaky so this was no small feat and I'm quite happy with how it came out!

Once I placed the tree, I remembered I had these little clay creations that a girl from work brought in... they were going to be thrown away... rejects... so of course, as most people I work with do... they brought them to me to see if I would want them and of course I did!  They were adorable!

So they've been sitting in a container and I wasn't sure I was going to remember which one and where, but it was meant to be and they found me and they were perfect!  This little guy looks like he's in a stocking. and there is a candy cane behind him!  (might be a cup of cocoa or coffee with a straw, but now it's a stocking and candy cane!).  And I chose silver bells because of the silver snowflake in the inspiration tag.

So there you have it!  My final "Tag"!  I have a few empty cubbies left to fill before I share the entire piece with you and I'm hoping to have that ready for you over this long weekend.  So please do come back and check up on me!  There will be a few things going on here over the next week and soon I'll have some exciting news for you!  In the meantime, the Funkie Junkie Boutique has an awesome sale going on!  It's progressive... the discount gets bigger each day, but the choices are fewer and fewer... are you a gambling soul?  Check it out here!

See you again soon!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag #11

I'm back with Tag #11 for the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas!   Above is Linda's Tag and here's how I was inspired:

So you may know that my friend Mitra is the one who "made me" play along with this challenge this year.  I use the term "made me" loosely because this has been so much fun and I'm very excited with how my project is coming along.  If you aren't familiar, Linda over at the Funkie Junkie creates 12 Tags and over the course of 12 weeks they are revealed and taking inspiration from them, if you create 12 "tags" (which don't have to be actual tags), then you have a chance to win some awesome prizes and also earn a special discount in the Funkie Junkie Boutique!   You can find Linda's first post here with all of the details!

So for this one, I found inspiration not just from Linda's tag.. the plaid... the numbers... the textured burlap, but also from Mitra's "tag" (aka jar... she's made jars and you should check them all out, but here's the one that inspired me for this one) I was inspired by her plaid fabric rose and I knew I had this plaid ribbon in my stash, so I made one too!  She also added some burlap to hers and see those pretty holly leaves and pearls... Mitra sent me those last Christmas in a cute little package of crafty items so I thought they were perfect for this cubby!

So one more cubby to finish the challenge and then I'm just filling in some empty spaces!   You still have time really... you should give it a try!  You have until the 29th to finish all of your "tags"!

I'm playing along with the Color My Heart Color dare Traditional Christmas Linky Challenge!  You should check that one out too!

Thanks for stopping and I'll be back to all my shenanigans soon!  Don't be a stranger!

The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag #10

I'm getting close!  Above is Linda's Tag # 10 for the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas and here's how I was inspired:

So... the colors... that natural look of the background (my wood items lend themselves to that natural feel) and the beautiful red and green.. and then of course... the wreath with the red bow!   And I love how this cute little Lawn Fawn wreath kind of mimics the background.  I added the pinecones and bell to pull it into the rest of the piece.

I had this one almost finished now for a couple days, but I needed something for that back corner so I let it sit... and this morning as I was going to start addressing some envelopes for Christmas cards (that will be late for sure), I came across this wooden deer and decided it would be perfect.  I carefully tucked him away in there with some glue dots on his feet and one on his butt and he was perfect.

Only two tags left and a few more empty spaces than that, but I will fill them all up once I'm done with my 12.  Lots of things to fill in with!  And I've been adding things as I go... that cute little wooden mouse fit in nicely with my ornament and loved that little Tim Holtz word sticker.  They are what matter right? ... Not the word stickers silly... the words...

Since you're problably online shopping anyway, you should check out the Funkie Junkie Boutique... lots of good stuff right there!

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and see you again soon!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag 9

So here I am.. again... on Sunday...with my Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas "Tag" #9!  I can't believe it either!  Linda's tag is above and here's how I was inspired:

I've been saving this beautiful sweet sparkly deer for just such a special occasion!  The deer on Linda's tag is definitely the main feature (to my eyes anyway... I mean yeah... beautiful background. blah blah...lol!! JK!) so I thought it was the perfect time to use this beauty.  Also inspired by the trees.. the pinecone... and I even added a cute little bell necklace to my beautiful girl as in the inspiration tag.  And those words from the Tim Holtz stickers were perfect.

She's sitting right between my pretty pink snowflake and my red and white ornament.  On to the next and fingers crossed maybe I'll be back again today!  In the meantime, take a look in the Funkie Junkie Boutique and you'll find some of the stuff I've used on this piece and so much more!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag 8

Back Again!! with my "Tag" #8 for the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas!  I thought this one was going to take me a while, but all of a sudden... Inspiration!  Above is Linda's tag and here's how I was inspired:

So yeah!  The colors again... I was like... pink?... blue?... what would I do.. more snowflakes?  Didn't want to be boring... so then I thought well, this snowflake was layered and almost like a flower.  So I thought of my Tim Holtz Snowflake Dies and cut one using some Bashful glitter paper.  Took out an old thread spool and wrapped some icy blue ribbon around it and tied a bow.  Used a glue dot to attach my glitter snowflake and then I had these cool wooden snowflakes with a silver finish which fit the silver in the inspiration tag and I had this pretty silver snowflake charm that I got as a gift the last time I ordered from The Funkie Junkie!  (AND I was able to find it!!!).  So I used some dimensional glue dots to keep some space between my layers so each would stand out.  I placed it in a cubby near those holly leaves since they were on this tag also.  And while looking for something to fill in the space next to it I found these cute little glittery pom poms and piled a few like snowballs in.  I love it.  Still getting used to the little change in color scheme, but if I add something similar in another strategic location, I think I'll be good with it!

I'm also going to enter this "tag" or cubby into the Color My Heart Color Dare month long Christmas Linky Party - Non Traditional.

And here's a little bit wider view... on to the next... and I already know what I'm doing with this one so I just might be back again today!  Don't forget to check out what's going on over at the Funkie Junkie Boutique!  I'm betting you find something you "need" there for sure!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag 7

I'm back again today with another "Tag" for the Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas Challenge!  Linda's tag is above and here's how I was inspired:

So, when I saw Linda's gorgeous tag my first thought was mmm.. plaid and my second thought was .. oh no... blue!  So as you can see I didn't take my inspiration so much from the colors this time, although that white poinsettia and Holly leaves... and then also, the fancy glittery frame and sentiment.

I had some already cut and gold splattered poinsettia leaves in my box of leftovers so it was easy to put this one together quickly.  A snowflake painted gold and a gold glittery gem make up my flower center to mimic others on this piece.  And I just happened to have that Tim Holtz die for the "greenery" so cut one out in white glitter (I actually cut two so I could add these leaves to the other similar flower on this piece... you'll see that again.. someday.

I had a frame similar to the one in the inspiration tag, however, it would not have fit inside my cubby and I didn't want it to be outside... but I did have this pretty one that I believe was a freebie from Our Daily Bread when I ordered from there once.  And I had this pretty Merry Christmas sentiment already in my box of leftovers and it ended up being perfect when cut using the inside of the frame die.

I added that other cardinal I was talking about because that corner needed a little something small and it was perfect!

And here's a little bit wider angle so you can see this one sits next to my "Tag" #1.

On to the next!  Be sure to visit the shop over at The Funkie Junkie!  You'll find all kinds of goodness there!

Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas-Tag 6

Finally back to my "Tags" for the Funkie Junkie!  I'm on "Tag 6" and I've got about 12 days to finish 6 more!  Don't worry... I'll finish!  I was hoping to be further along after this weekend, but I always think I have more time than I do!  Above is Linda's tag and here's how I was inspired:

I kind of made two tags for #7... I was inspired by the snowflakes, glitter, and red.  I took some of my wooden snowflakes and painted them with white gesso, then Modge Podge and then covered them with glitter.  I used some chunky glue dots and liquid glass to adhere them standing up in two of the cubbies flanking Tag 5's Santa frame.  I added those bells to the top left and that cute cardinal for some pops of red on this one.

And on this one, same snowflake treatment, but I already had the red bells hanging from Santa's frame, so I added a tiny little deer critter instead and that cute little Tim Holtz phrase.  I have another cardinal, but I wanted them to be a little different and I'm saving the other one 'cause you just never know when you're gonna need a cardinal!

Here's a little bit wider angle to show some of the neighboring cubbies...

And a little bit wider yet!  As you can see, I still have quite a few cubbies to fill!  Back to it!  And be sure you check out the shop over at the Funkie Junkie Boutique here!  And sign up for the mailing list because there are awesome deals and sales all the time!
